Why Eat Raw Foods?
Why would anyone ever eat all or mostly raw food (uncooked food) when they can have a perfectly normal cooked meal instead? When we put our food on a pan or a grill, or in an oven or microwave, it seems like a completely natural process.
After all, we have been doing this all our lives, so why question it now?
We believe that heating our food to high enough temperatures will kill harmful bacteria and therefore must be better for us. Unfortunately, that is not the entire truth and there is more to this story that the food and medical industries do not want you to know because they would lose billions of dollars.
World’s Greatest Myths
Like the billions of people who lived before us, we are influenced and even blinded by conventional wisdom and deeply engrained old habits. It seems that the more we see the same thing over and over, again and again, the more we come to accept it as the way things are supposed to be. We have seen cooked foods every day of our lives and have naturally come to accept this as the only way and the right way to prepare our food.
Two better-known myths from centuries ago are hard to believe, but are nonetheless true. It was common knowledge that if you traveled far enough to the horizon, you would certainly fall off the earth. Christopher Columbus is credited for being the one to expose the flat-earth myth by sailing long ocean voyages without falling off the planet.
It was also common knowledge that the sun, stars and planets revolved around the earth. Looking at the heavens, it seemed true beyond a shadow of a doubt that the earth was in fact the center of the universe because everything appeared to revolve around us.
Great minds like Galileo who dared to challenge conventional wisdom, were ridiculed and punished for their controversial beliefs that the earth was not the center of the universe. Eventually though, science won out and the world came to understand the truth that it is the earth’s rotation that makes the appearance of the earth being at the center of everything. That myth has been shattered and now we know that the earth is not even close to being at the center of the universe.
Today, the greatest and most harmful myth of all is that we must eat cooked foods
and that they are nourishing for us.

Far reaching media like television and the internet are quickly changing our world today. In the past, myths of conventional wisdom that may have taken centuries to be revealed can now be uncovered in only a few decades. I have little doubt that the myth about cooked foods will begin to be broken in as little as a decade because of the severity of the current worldwide health crisis and because of all of the testimonials and information about healthy diet quickly spreading through the far reaching and high speed media that was previously unavailable. An important question to ask is, do I want to be among the first or the last to find out?

It’s Not Wise to Defy Mother Nature
According to most estimates, man appeared on our planet about three million years ago. Since the beginning of time, he and all living creatures thrived on food that was not cooked and did not contain pesticides, hormones, chemical additives, preservatives, refined ingredients and genetically modified organisms. Then about 50,000 years ago, man learned how to harness fire and for reasons we will never know, decided it was better to heat his food. To get an idea of how recently cooking food started, imagine a football field that is 100 yards long representing the history of man since his beginning. Fifty thousand years is represented by less than two yards of the entire 100 yards.

Cooking our food is clearly not the way we were intended to eat, but it eventually became commonplace throughout much of the world. Today, we are defying nature by eating foods that are cooked and loaded with harmful chemicals and hormones. And now we are paying the price.
Now we are seeing the frightening results of what we have done to our food supply. Look around. We are living in the most unhealthy and diseased time ever known to mankind. Obesity, cancer, heart disease, diabetes are on the rise and occurring at epidemic proportions.
The National Center for Health statistics has been tracking America’s obesity problem for over four decades. The following statistics support the growing concern regarding the obesity problem in America.
- Between 1962 and the year 2000, the number of obese Americans grew from 13% to an alarming 31% of the population.
- 63% of Americans are overweight with a Body Mass Index (BMI) in excess of 25.0.
- 31% are obese with a BMI in excess of 30.0.
- Childhood obesity in the United States has more than tripled in the past two decades.
- According to the U.S. Surgeon General report obesity is responsible for 300,000 deaths every year.
- Cancer, heart disease and diabetes are in a heated race with obesity.
Why Is Heating Food a Bad Idea?
Scientific studies have shown that when food is cooked at even a low temperature of 116 degrees or higher, not only is potentially harmful bacteria killed, but many of the nutrients and digestive enzymes that we require for digestion and for life are destroyed and/or altered to something that we would never knowingly put in our bodies.
When food is cooked, the heat destroys most of the digestive enzymes that are necessary for our body to break down and digest that food. That lack of digestive enzymes causes our stomach to produce more acid than normal to break down the food. This increased acid causes heartburn, ulcers and acid reflux disease, which can lead to Barrett’s Disease that is a precursor to esophageal cancer. Excessive gastric acids are also suspected of leading to colon cancer.
Cooking food also produces mutated enzymes that are toxins and cause our immune system to work much harder and become weaker, making us easier prey for disease and cancer. Our immune system is the only defense mechanism we have to fight off cancer and disease so we must insure that it remains strong at all times. We cannot survive for long without a strong immune system. On top of that, consider all of the harmful additives that are slowly poisoning us.
Growing Awareness About The Food We Eat
We can no longer ignore the warning signs. We have gone against nature and are now facing the consequences of our own actions. Thankfully though, we are beginning to wake up and question the food we eat.

Eating Raw Foods
You don’t have to eat all or even mostly all raw foods when you start. You can start slow and gradually build up. Before I was introduced to raw foods, I was eating about 90% cooked foods and about 10% raw foods. Within 30 days, I was eating well over 50% raw foods and was motivated to increase that amount because I was feeling so good and seeing such great results.
Today, I eat about 90% raw foods and about 10% cooked foods. It’s very difficult to be 100% raw when most of the world is not there yet. Nonetheless, any amount will give you powerful benefits and the higher percentage of raw food that you eat compared to cooked foods, the greater your rewards will be.
I have experimented and eaten 100% raw for a week at a time and I really notice the difference even from 90%. Uncooked foods are extremely powerful.Most “raw foodists” consume a minimum of 75% raw food in their diet. You can pace yourself and decide on an amount you like by just closely listening to your body. The bottom line is that uncooked, live, organic foods have incredibly powerful and wide-ranging benefits for all of us.
Eating raw foods doesn’t mean just eating carrot sticks and lettuce although plain and simple brightly colored and crispy fresh vegetables and fruits are extremely tasty, satisfying and nourishing and are not to be discounted in any way.

You may also feel an allergic reaction like stuffy sinuses or headache from your anticipated but unfulfilling feast on cooked foods. Raw Food Diet Study
An Investigation of Over 500 People Who Have Eaten a Raw Food Diet for Over 2 Years

Inspired by her own positive experiences going raw, Zajic went on to obtain a Masters in Vegan and Live Food Nutrition from the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center in Arizona, where she conducted an in-depth 500-participant survey of raw foodists. The study’s findings showed that people who followed an 80 to 90% raw foods diet for 2 years reported marked improvements in immunity, digestion, allergies, weight moderation, chronic illness, and mental, and emotional well-being.
Based on these results, it was concluded that people who have been on a raw foods diet for two years or more experienced and generally continue to experience significant improvements on many physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. There appear to be very few, if any, consistent negative effects or areas of serious concern that can be identified from this preliminary study.
