Your first 30 days of Raw Magic are the most critical because once you successfully complete them, you will see and feel such dramatic results that you will be inspired and encouraged to continue on your new path and never look back and return to your old ways.  I can tell you from my experience the benefits are so powerful that you will genuinely be grateful for this day when you made up your mind to change your life forever with Raw Magic.

What Do You Need To Do?

First, you must avoid eating as much food as possible that has been cooked.  Substitute only uncooked food in its’ place:  primarily organic vegetables and fruits.  It’s great if you can eat 100% raw foods, but that is very difficult to do when you are just starting out.  Keep in mind though, the less cooked foods you eat and the more you substitute raw foods in their place, the greater your rewards will be. Read Raw Foods to Eat. After eating mostly raw foods for only a few weeks you will feel profound effects.

Second, you must physically exercise your body one hour a day for 6 days a week in a meaningful way that strengthens you without injuring yourself.  Read Raw Body Fitness.

And third, to enhance your life beyond the imagination you have today, you must exercise your mind daily in a way that will allow you to expand your imagination and achieve your wildest dreams for health, wealth and happiness.   Read Raw Mind Fitness.

The best food, the right amount of physical exercise and effective mind exercises are powerful all by themselves, but when combined together, their power is increased exponentially. The result of this combination is like 1+1+1 equals 1,000. Not just 3!

Do You Have Enough Time?

clockMost of us have demanding schedules and seem to have very little time left over for new things we want to do.  The truth is, however, that we do have enough time and that if there is something we truly want to do, we will find and make the time.  I know I always do and I’m pretty sure we are all the same that way.

Aside from work or household and personal chores, most of us spend a great deal of time every day watching television or talking on the telephone or doing something else. Instead of watching television, use some of that time to plan your raw food shopping, preparation and meals.  Wake up earlier and use some of that time to exercise.  If you think about it carefully, you will find several places where you can gain the time that you need.  It’s there.  You just have to look for it and use it wisely.  There are many different ways you can adjust your schedule to fit Raw Magic into your life.  You may not have the answer now, but you will find it very soon if you really want to.

Within a few days after beginning raw foods and exercising, you will start feeling so much better and your mind will become so much clearer that you will want to make more time for Raw Magic and it will automatically become a priority.  Keep envisioning that body of your dreams.  Cut out a picture of the body you want and keep it in clear sight where you will see it frequently.  It’s now just beginning to take shape.  Every day you are feeling better than you have in a long time.  You are more energetic and are beginning to shed bad feelings and stress.  Stay with Raw Magic because it only gets better and better and better each and every day.

How Much Raw Food Should You Eat?

The more raw food you substitute for cooked foods, the greater results you will feel and see.  Before I was introduced to raw foods, I was eating about 90% cooked foods and about 10% raw foods.  Within 30 days of starting raw, I was eating well over 50% raw foods and was motivated to increase that amount because I was feeling so good and seeing such great results. 
Today, only a few months later, I eat about 90% raw foods and about 10% cooked foods.  It’s very difficult to be 100% raw when we have been eating cooked foods all of our lives and since it’s a mostly cooked food world today.  Nonetheless, any significant amount will give you powerful benefits because the higher percentage of raw food that you eat compared to cooked foods, the greater your rewards will be.
I have experimented and eaten 100% raw for a week at a time and I really notice the difference even from 90%.  Uncooked foods are extremely powerful.

In general, most “raw foodists” consume a minimum of 75% raw food in their diet. You can pace yourself and decide on an amount you like by just closely listening to your body. The bottom line is that uncooked, live, organic foods have incredibly powerful and wide-ranging benefits for all of us.

We are all different in our approach to new things, especially when it comes to food.  Most of us will want to incorporate change more slowly and gradually.  Some may begin by eating raw foods for only specific meals like breakfast or lunch and gradually ease in to a full day of eating raw.   Another method is to start by eating 100% raw for only one weekend day and then work up to the entire weekend eventually eating all raw every day for 30 days.  And another method yet is to begin by eating half of your daily intake with raw foods and gradually building up to 100%.  Some will even want to jump in and go 100% immediately. There are many different ways to begin Raw Magic.  The only important thing is that you do it.

How to easily transition from a cooked food diet to a raw food diet:

Portion Size?

Since raw foods provide at least twice the amount of nutrition per comparable unit of measure, you will find that you won’t need to eat as much as you are used to.  It’s best to eat more frequently and smaller portions.  There are recent studies demonstrating that those people who eat smaller portions and smaller amounts of food per serving, but more frequently, are much healthier and live considerably longer. The conclusion is that smaller and more frequent servings are best.

Now to Get Started Eating Raw Food

foodBy far, the absolute best way is to try to encourage a spouse, friend or partner to go raw with you for 30 days.  It’s great if you can get your whole family to start with you so you can all support each other and avoid temptation.

Talk to them about the discovery you just made.  Ask them to keep an open mind and investigate for themselves.  Show them the Before & After Eating Raw Pics, the Why Eat Raw Foods page, the Testimonials and the Scientific Studies in the Raw Magic site.  Read them again for yourself.  They are very convincing and got me to try raw foods immediately.
It’s much easier if you commit with someone else so you can encourage each other to stay on track.  Teaming up with somebody else made it easier for me and resulted in my succeeding at my first 30 days.  You may want to do it all by yourself and that works great too.  The most important thing is that you do it for yourself.

Make Your Plan

For the first two weeks, keep your focus only on eating raw foods and physical exercise.  It’s best to start Raw Mind Fitness only after your mind is fueled and fertilized by at least two weeks of eating raw foods and physical exercise.  Your mind will then be ready and open for the incredible journey in store for you.  You will also be busy adjusting to your new schedule and will need the extra time reading and preparing to begin Raw Mind Fitness.

Pick a day when you will start and prepare for that day.  Take plenty of “before” pictures.  Write down your weight and body measurements so that you can see them later as a reminder of your amazing accomplishment.

Get a very large calendar and hang it in clear sight where you will always see it.  Write down what you plan to eat for each day of the week.  Write down your body and mind exercise plan.  Write down the time you are going to exercise.  Write what food you actually ate and what exercises you actually did and for how long.  How did you feel after each meal?  How did you feel after each exercise?  Write it all down where you can see it most of the time throughout the day. The bigger it is, the better it will serve you!

If you need a larger space for each calendar day, write each day on a sheet of regular letter paper and place them in plain sight on a wall where the days are in order like a calendar.  Again, keep this calendar where you will always see it and remember, the bigger your calendar, the better it will work for you!

Organize your food shopping and preparation into your schedule.  Make sure you can comfortably shop for and prepare your food and juices on a realistic schedule.  This all takes some effort, but it is worth it and will fall into place very quickly.  Get rid of all of your processed food.  Throw out canned foods and any food that is not live and fresh.  Clean out your kitchen and your refrigerator so there is no temptation.  Get rid of your alcohol, sodas and sugary drinks.  Make your shopping list for the market and stock up your kitchen with a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes and grains.

Raw Foods

green drinkGreen vegetable juices and fresh fruit smoothies are powerful super foods that will give your body a solid dose of nutrition and energy.  They take little effort to make and are convenient and powerful. I timed myself the other day and discovered that a dark green vegetable juice with kale, celery, broccoli and carrots takes less than 10 minutes to make, clean up and drink. A fruit smoothie takes about the same amount of time.

Graze on fruits throughout the day.  Apples and fruits in general are great for energy and nutrition.  Scoop up a handful of blueberries or a trail mix of raw seeds, raisins and nuts.  Have a banana.  Peaches are incredible when they are in season.  Strawberries, kiwis, cantaloupe and watermelon taste great and are packed with nutrients.  Grapes are great little snacks.

One of my favorites for lunch or dinner is still a basic mixed green salad with sliced carrots, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, bell peppers, raw sprouted sunflower seeds, raw sesame and flax seeds tossed in a cold pressed olive oil with a light sprinkling of salt like a Himalayan pink salt.  Experiment with different vegetables and herbs and find your own favorites.

There are prepackaged raw food snacks like coconut almond balls, cereals, breads and crackers, etc. that are fantastic and can be purchased at some markets or online.   Raw foods don’t have a long shelf life so they are not as plentiful as the foods packed with chemical preservatives.  If you are lucky, your market may carry a selection of fresh raw gourmet foods in the refrigerated section.  I’ve seen a pretty good selection at Whole Foods markets.

If you can, buy all or mostly organic foods since they contain rich nutrients with no pesticides, preservatives, harmful chemicals, hormones, refined ingredients like sugar and genetically modified organisms.  marketYour kitchen should always be filled with fresh vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, grains and legumes.  Shop at local farmers markets where the produce is organic and fresh.  It also helps support the local farmers and helps the green movement.

It’s true that organic foods are more expensive than conventional foods.  They are produced on a smaller scale and they take more work to produce.  There is an offset to the higher price though because you will save money on doctor bills and prescriptions by remaining healthy.

When you are in the super market, start spending most of your time in the produce section with the super nourishing foods.  Stay away from the rest of the market where most of those foods are heavily processed and filled with chemicals that should be avoided.  I like what Woody Harrelson said referring to all the chemicals in our foods, “if you can’t pronounce it, then you probably shouldn’t be putting it into your body”.

Remember, nothing should be cooked.  There is no such thing as “healthy cooking”.  Heating food to any temperature greater than 116 degrees Fahrenheit destroys over half of the nutrients and also creates harmful toxins that should be avoided whenever possible.   See Scientific Studies.

Organic Foods

Almost all food up until the 1940’s was organic.  There were no pesticides.  There were no hormones and chemicals.  There were no genetically modified foods that were created in the lab.  Food then was in its’ purest and safest form.  The fact is that food has been organic for most of history and has only changed in the last 60 years.

Then came the pesticides to protect the farmer’s crops from insects and birds.  Shortly afterwards, chemical preservatives became commonplace to make our foods last longer on the shelves.  Hormones were fed to cattle, hogs and chickens to fatten them up quickly and generate quicker and bigger profits.  More chemicals were added to provide new and artificial flavors.  Finally, somebody figured out how to create and clone soybeans in the lab.  Today, over 90% of all of our soybeans are genetically modified in the lab.

The vast majority of our food is not organic and is tainted with harmful chemicals and hormones. Organic food is strictly monitored and is free of these harmful additives and pesticides. Organic foods are strictly monitored and are free of these harmful additives and pesticides.

Stop and Think Before You Eat

Whatever you do, take just a second and think about every bite of food before putting it into your mouth.  Be conscious before you eat.  Think about what it’s going to do to you.  Is it bad for you or is it good for you?  Stop and think every time just before you eat and ask yourself if this is something you want to put into your body.  Soon you will be solidly on track.water

Drink a Lot of Water

The human body is made up of mostly water.  Since our body requires a lot of water to stay hydrated and healthy and helps to eliminate toxins we need to drink water frequently and stay away from bottled and canned drinks of any kind containing chemicals, sugars and who knows what else.  Get a kitchen counter water filter to save money in the long run since bottled water can be expensive.  Visit the Raw Magic Super Store. Try to get in the habit of carrying a filled water bottle with you at all times.

Avoid Dairy and Meat Products

The dairy industry spends millions of dollars every day telling us how great their products are for us.  They bombard us with their slogan, “Milk Does Every Body Good”.  They show us pictures of well-known people drinking a glass of milk, smiling and wearing a milk moustache.  They display their products in prominent places in the supermarkets where we cannot ignore them.  It all looks very good, harmless and appealing.  The problem, however, is that there is overwhelming evidence dairy products are harmful and should be avoided.  Investigate and find out for yourself.  For starters, look at the You Tube video, The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell of Cornell University.  This is a comprehensive and exhaustive study on nutrition.  Be sure to watch the entire video.  It’s only 14 minutes long, but it contains information that is both surprising and at the same time it makes sense.  Dr. Campbell is a world leading nutritionist.

What Kind of Kitchen Equipment Do You Need?

mixerDig out the old juicer if you have one or get one as soon as you can because it will make your life easier, allowing you to quickly make super nutritious vegetable or fruit drinks.  You can make vegetable juices or fruit juices for breakfast or lunch that will give you large amounts of nutrition and energy that your body and mind will thrive on.  You should also have a blender and food processor for juices and exciting new raw dishes that you will soon be preparing.  To learn what you will need to prepare raw foods, read Raw Kitchen Equipment.  Most of the equipment for raw food preparation is relatively inexpensive, but will give you so many more choices for absolutely delicious recipes.  If you don’t have anything else though, a sharp knife, a good cutting board and the raw, organic food is all you will need to get started.  Food processors, juicers and dehydrators are among the more expensive items, but you can slowly work up to a level where you gradually include these tools into your arsenal when you can afford them.  You can also pick up juicers and food processors cheap at yard sales.

Can You Drink Alcoholic Beverages?

You probably already know the answer to this question, but still need to hear it anyway.  As frightening as not drinking alcoholic beverages can be to some of us who are used to it as a part of our daily life, the truth is, alcohol is a toxin and while you like the way it makes you feel initially with your first drink, it is definitely injuring your body and your mind.  It also weakens your self-control and will cause your will power to fail.  It is not worth the high price you pay to feel good for too short a time.  Do your absolute best to commit to 30 days of not drinking, or at least very little drinking, and give your body and mind a break to detoxify and a chance to see how good you can feel once you eliminate the poisons.  It’s really amazing.

If you are used to drinking in social settings, the best thing to do is to avoid those social settings for at least the first month or so.  If you must be in a social setting where drinking is commonplace, then plan on substituting a drink with something that looks like a cocktail, but is non-alcoholic.  Mocktails are becoming very popular and do not contain any alcohol.  I personally like just a simple glass of water and ice.

Within a month, you won’t miss the drink.  I promise.  You may get a few occasional urges, but they will diminish and be easy to manage.  Take it from someone who used to drink enough for an entire army.  All you have to do is take that first step and make up your mind that you are going to go without alcohol for 30 days.  Yes, you can do it if you really want to feel and look super good.  Remember, your urges only last for a few minutes, but the damage of continual alcohol consumption could last you a lifetime.  When feeling an urge, do not give in.  Be strong and fight it.  Remind yourself how good you are going to look and feel by eliminating the alcohol from your diet.  Remind yourself how great your mind will now start working.  You only have to say no for a minute or two and the urge will vanish as your mind wanders off to something else besides alcohol.

If you are able to drink only one glass of wine on infrequent occasions, then you may be able to have an occasional glass now and then.  You must decide for yourself because only you know how it affects you.  The question is:  Is it worth it?

What Should You Do When You Get an Urge to Eat Cooked Food?

One thing I discovered about breaking old habits and controlling urges is that while urges may be strong, they only last a few minutes at a time.  The key is to get through each short-lived urge without giving in and you’ll find that your mind will automatically wander to something else.  In the beginning, the urges are stronger and more frequent, but with time, they become weaker and less frequent, eventually disappearing.

Because urges for eating are driven by both habit and actual hunger sensations from your stomach and brain, those urges will be stronger than other urges and will probably last longer.  It is, therefore, important to satisfy the feeling of hunger immediately with only raw foods.  Within 10 to 15 minutes after eating, your urge will begin to go away.  You may still have some desire for certain cooked food dishes, but that too will soon disappear.

Again, the trick is to get through each single urge because they usually don’t last for more than a few minutes.

burgerIf your urge wins out and beats you this time, then do it and enjoy your meal.  Don’t feel guilty and punish yourself.  But most important, don’t revert back to eating cooked foods on a permanent basis until after you have at least had a chance to eat mostly raw foods for 30 days.  If you need to, avoid restaurants for that first 30 days and save yourself money and temptation.

My experience after 30 days of eating uncooked foods is that when I do eat cooked food that I enjoy for only a few minutes, I am quickly reminded of how it basically disagrees with me when I almost instantly feel tired and stuffy headed.   Without fail, cooked foods make me tired and groggy every time I try them.  I do not eat cooked foods very often, but just enough to remind myself how cooked food does not agree with me. Making the transition from cooked foods to raw is challenging because eating cooked foods is all you ever knew and it’s so deeply engrained into your lifelong behavior and your subconscious mind.  The challenge is further magnified by everyone around you eating cooked food and in restaurants everywhere you look.  That’s okay!  Be the example.  They haven’t discovered what you have yet, but it’s only a matter of time. Besides, you don’t have to eat 100% raw.  60 or 70 or 80% will give you incredible results.

Physical Exercise

exerciseI’m sure you’ve heard the expression, “Use it or lose it”.  It’s true.  If you don’t use your muscles, they will atrophy or shrink and get weaker.  We don’t want weak.  We want strong.  We want to feel good.  And strong feels good.  It’s extremely important to exercise your body every day.  It’s important for your body and your mind.

The human body is amazing.  The simple fact is, if you ask your body to perform a task that is somewhat of an effort, but within your limits, it will respond and grow stronger every time.  In Raw Body Fitness, you just have to find that starting point where you are pushing hard enough, but not too hard to hurt yourself.

What is the Best Physical Exercise For Me?

We are all different ages, different sizes and in different physical condition.  Meaningful exercise means enough daily exercise that will significantly strengthen your body by increasing muscle strength, bone strength and add balance and flexibility.  It also means doing enough aerobic exercise to circulate your blood better and help strengthen your heart.  This will also help clean and clear your blood vessels and send life giving oxygen to your cells and brain making you feel absolutely wonderful after a workout.

Meaningful exercise may be simply going for a slow walk or a brisk walk at a pace and for as much time as is appropriate for you.  If your level of condition warrants, you may be jogging or running for up to an hour.  There are so many different forms of aerobic exercise and they are all great for you so long as you don’t push beyond your limits.

I like to do the P90X workout program as much as I can.  It’s great for aerobics, muscle development and flexibility.  I would only recommend P90X to those who are in good condition or to those who are willing to start very slowly and gradually build up over a period of months.  The key is to push as hard as you can without injuring yourself.  If you are not in good physical condition, then you should consult your doctor and go very slowly, but go.  Whatever shape you are in, you should check with your doctor or expert consultant about how you should exercise.

Buy Yourself a Heart Rate Monitor

Buy yourself a heart rate monitor so you can keep your heart rate in a desired zone that is optimum for you.  This helps to keep you working just hard enough and yet not too hard.  One basic guideline is that when your breathing is labored, you should always be able to talk reasonably comfortably.  You should never be so out of breath that you can’t talk.  There are several different methods for calculating your target heart rate, but you should investigate for yourself with your doctor or by going online for guidance.

If you ever feel weak or dizzy while you are exercising, stop exercising immediately and do not push any further until you feel safe doing so.

Eat lightly, but make sure you eat something that will provide you with the energy your body is going to require for that exercise.  Have some fruit or something that will give you a sugar boost an hour before exercise so your body has enough energy that it will need.

If You Injure Yourself, Stop Exercising

Physical exercise always runs the risk of injury.  If you injure yourself, stop exercising and seek medical attention immediately.  As soon as you feel better and safe to continue, resume your exercise activity keeping a close eye on the part you injured.

Test Your New Life Style

After 30 days of eating all or mostly raw foods, take a convincing test for yourself.  By then, your body should be relatively free of many of the toxins you have accumulated over a lifetime and therefore any new toxins should be more noticeable to you.  Go ahead and eat your favorite cooked food that you used to love so much before going raw.  You may feel like you are giving yourself a treat, but soon after eating, listen to your body and you will be reminded how cooked food does not agree with you.  Within 10 to 20 minutes, instead of feeling comfortably satisfied and light and energetic, you will most likely feel drowsy, heavy, tired and uncomfortably full because your body is reacting to all of the toxic enzymes from the heated dead food and the toxic additives.  You may also feel an allergic reaction like stuffy sinuses or headache from your anticipated but unfulfilling feast on cooked foods.  It’s a great reminder to avoid cooked foods and will immediately send you running back to raw.
